123WordAttorney GeneralIn most common law jurisdictions, the Attorney General or Attorney-General is the main legal advisor to the government, and in some jurisdictions may in addition have executive responsibility for law enforcement or responsibility for public prosecutions. The term Attorney General is used to designate the chief law enforcement officer of a state or other political jurisdiction. The Attorney General is a lawyer who represents the government, prosecutes criminal cases, defends the government from lawsuits against it, and brings civil lawsuits to enforce consumer protection, antitrust, and other laws. In the Federal Government of the United States, the Attorney General is a member of the Cabinet and as head of the Department of Justice is the top law enforcement officer and lawyer for the government. The attorney general may need to be distinguished from the Solicitor General, a high Justice Department official with the responsibility of representing the government in the Supreme Court. In cases of exceptional importance, however, the Attorney General may choose to represent the government himself/herself in the Supreme Court. The individual U.S. states also have State Attorneys General with similar responsibilities. The majority of state Attorneys General are chosen by popular election, as opposed to the U.S. Attorney General who is a Presidential appointee. Thus it is necessary for example, when a family member comes of driving age they must be added on to the policy. New Hampshire Liability insurance sometimes does not protect the policy holder if they operate any vehicles other than their own. New Jersey When you drive a vehicle owned by another party, you are covered under that party’s policy. New Mexico Non-owners policies may be offered that would cover an insured on any vehicle they drive. New York This coverage is available only to those who do not own their own vehicle and is sometimes required by the government for drivers who have previously been found at fault in an accident. Newfoundland and Labrador Generally, liability coverage extends when you rent a car. North Carolina Comprehensive policies usually also apply to the rental vehicle, although this should be verified beforehand. North Dakota Full coverage premiums are based on, among other factors, the value of the insured’s vehicle. |
